What is filler dissolving?
Filler dissolving uses an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid filler so the body can absorb it. Most of the change appears within 24–48 hours, and some patients need a second session about 2 weeks later; it does not work on non-HA fillers.
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that also exists naturally in the body. When injected into an area of hyaluronic acid filler, it breaks the gel into small pieces that are absorbed over the next one to two days. The doctor places it precisely where the unwanted filler sits, so it is possible to soften a lump or reduce one side without removing everything.
Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid. It does not dissolve collagen stimulators such as Sculptra or PCL fillers, permanent fillers, or fat. If you are not sure what was injected, bring any records you have or tell us the clinic and date; the doctor may also use ultrasound or touch to locate the product before treatment.

- Review. We review in about 2 weeks before any further dissolving or refilling.
Aftercare
- Expect some swelling for 1–3 days before the area settles
- Gentle massage only if the doctor advises it
- Wait about 2 weeks before new filler in the same area
- Contact us about itching, hives or spreading redness
Possible side effects
Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising are common for a few days. Allergic reactions are uncommon but possible. Dissolving can also break down some of your own natural hyaluronic acid, so an area may look slightly flat for a short time.
