The short answer

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified botulinum toxin type A that temporarily relaxes the muscles that crease the skin or bulk up the jaw. Injections take minutes, the effect appears over 3–7 days, and results usually last 3–4 months before the muscle gradually recovers.

Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve signal that tells a muscle to contract. When the forehead, frown or eye muscles move less, the skin above them stops folding as deeply, so dynamic lines soften and new creases form more slowly. In larger muscles, such as the masseter at the jaw angle, reduced activity lets the muscle shrink over a few weeks, which slims the lower face.

Botox is the original brand name, but several toxins are used worldwide. At our clinic the doctor uses either a Korean-made toxin or imported Xeomin, a purified toxin without complexing proteins. The doctor explains the difference and the dose at consultation, so you choose with full information rather than by brand name alone.

Who it suits

  • Forehead lines, frown lines or crow's feet that show when you move
  • A square lower face from strong masseter (chewing) muscles
  • Jaw clenching, a dimpled chin or a gummy smile
  • People who want a refreshed look with no downtime

Who should wait or choose another option

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia gravis, or a known allergy to toxin products
  • Deep lines that stay at rest, where fillers or a skin booster may suit better

Your visit

Your treatment day

  1. Doctor consultation. We watch your expressions and agree the areas, toxin type and dose with you.
  2. Photos and marking. Injection points are marked so the result is balanced on both sides.
  3. Optional numbing. Ice or numbing cream; most people describe brief pinpricks only.
  4. Injections. Fine-needle injections take around 10–15 minutes for most areas.
  5. Back to your day. Small bumps settle within about 30 minutes; you can go straight out.

Aftercare

  • Stay upright and avoid rubbing the area for about 4 hours
  • Skip saunas, hard exercise and alcohol on the day
  • Avoid facials or face massage for about 2 weeks
  • Message us at 2 weeks if one side looks different

Possible side effects

Pinpoint bruising, mild headache or slight swelling at injection points are the most common. Uncommonly, a heavy brow, a drooping eyelid or an uneven smile can occur; these are temporary and settle as the toxin wears off.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Botox cost in Seoul?

It depends on the areas and the toxin chosen. Send us a photo on Instagram and we reply with an exact quote in English; the price is the same for Korean and international patients, plus 10% VAT.

Does Botox hurt?

Most patients feel quick pinpricks. We can use ice or numbing cream, and a single area takes only a few minutes.

How long does Botox last?

For lines, usually 3–4 months. Jaw slimming often lasts longer, typically 4–6 months, and many people need less over time with regular treatments.

Can I get Botox on a short trip to Seoul?

Yes. There is no downtime, so you can be treated the day you arrive. Try to come at least a few days before you fly, and we follow up on Instagram if you need advice on a touch-up.

What is the difference between Korean toxin and Xeomin?

Both relax muscles in the same way. Xeomin is imported and contains no complexing proteins, which some patients prefer if they have regular treatments; the doctor explains the options at consultation.

Botox or filler for my lines?

Botox treats lines caused by movement; filler replaces lost volume. Lines that stay at rest often need both, or a skin booster.
