What is Fraxel?
Fraxel is a fractional laser treatment that creates thousands of microscopic heat columns in the skin to stimulate new collagen and shed damaged surface cells. Most patients have 3–5 sessions about 4 weeks apart, with a few days of redness and flaking after each.
A fractional laser treats only a fraction of the skin in each pass: tiny columns of heated tissue surrounded by untreated skin. The untreated skin heals the columns quickly, while the controlled injury prompts new collagen and elastin and pushes old pigment out with the flaking surface layer.
Because the effect builds with each session and collagen keeps remodelling for months, results develop gradually. Fraxel is not a lifting treatment; it improves texture, scarring and tone. For laxity, a device such as Thermage FLX or Ultherapy Prime is more suitable, and they are often combined.

Who should wait or choose another option
- Active acne, cold sores or infection in the area: treat these first, see acne treatment

- Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for about 30–45 minutes.
- Laser treatment. The doctor treats the area in passes; you feel heat and prickling.
- Cooling. We cool the skin and apply a soothing moisturiser and sunscreen.
- Recovery. Redness and swelling for 1–3 days, then fine flaking for a few more days.
Aftercare
- Moisturise generously and use gentle cleanser only
- Do not pick or scrub flaking skin
- Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen; avoid direct sun for several weeks
- Pause retinoids, acids and scrubs until the skin has settled
Possible side effects
Redness, swelling, warmth and a bronzed, flaking look are expected for several days. Possible risks include temporary darkening of the skin (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), acne flares, cold-sore reactivation and, rarely, infection or scarring. Our doctors adjust settings for darker skin tones.

Frequently asked questions
How much downtime does Fraxel have?
Most patients have red, swollen skin for 1–3 days, then fine flaking for a few more days. Make-up is usually possible after a few days.
How many Fraxel sessions do I need?
Usually 3–5 sessions about 4 weeks apart. Deep acne scars can need more, and results keep improving for months as collagen remodels.
Does Fraxel hurt?
With numbing cream most patients feel heat and prickling that is tolerable. The skin feels like a sunburn for a few hours afterwards.
Can I have Fraxel on a trip to Seoul?
Yes, if you can stay out of strong sun and allow several days of redness and flaking. Plan it early in your trip rather than right before a flight or event.
Is Fraxel safe for Asian skin?
It can be, with careful settings and strict sun protection, because darker skin has a higher risk of temporary pigmentation. The doctor adjusts density and energy for you.
Is the price the same for foreigners?
Yes. Korean and international patients pay the same price, and an English-speaking coordinator helps with booking. VAT of 10% is added at payment.
