The short answer

What causes dehydrated skin?

Dehydrated skin is skin that lacks water because its barrier lets moisture escape, causing tightness, dullness and fine dehydration lines. It can affect any skin type, including oily skin. Hydrating skin boosters and barrier repair restore moisture more deeply than creams alone.

Dry skin and dehydrated skin are not the same. Dry skin produces too little oil; dehydrated skin lacks water. A healthy barrier, made of lipids between skin cells, slows water loss. When that barrier is damaged by harsh cleansers, over-exfoliation, air conditioning, flights, sun or cold weather, water evaporates faster than the skin can replace it.

The result is skin that feels tight after washing, looks dull, and shows fine criss-cross lines that disappear when you moisturise. Oily skin can be dehydrated too, and often overproduces oil to compensate. Topical moisturisers help the surface, while injected boosters such as hyaluronic acid or collagen deliver hydration into the dermis, where it lasts longer.

Signs these treatments can help

  • Skin that feels tight after cleansing
  • Dullness and fine lines that soften when moisturised
  • Oily skin that still feels dehydrated
  • Skin worn out by flights, air conditioning or sun

When to see a specialist first

  • Persistent redness, flaking or itching that may be eczema or dermatitis: see a dermatologist
  • Active skin infection or inflamed acne in the area: treat it first
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, or allergy to injectable ingredients: tell the doctor

How we treat dehydrated skin at our clinic

  1. Doctor consultation. We check hydration, oiliness, barrier health and sensitivity.
  2. Choosing a booster. Hilowave for hydration, Elravie Re2O for hydration and firmness, or Rejuran for repair.
  3. Numbing and injection. Numbing cream, then fine injections or Mirajet delivery across the face.
  4. Calming. A soothing finish to settle the skin before you leave.
  5. Course. Most patients benefit from 1–3 sessions; we follow up on Instagram.

Aftercare

  • Use a gentle cleanser and a barrier-repair moisturiser
  • Avoid make-up for the rest of the day
  • Apply SPF daily
  • Drink water and avoid alcohol for a day or two

Possible side effects

Small bumps, mild redness and occasional small bruises at injection points are common and usually settle within 1–3 days. Rarely, lumps or infection can occur; our doctors explain risks at consultation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?

Dry skin lacks oil; dehydrated skin lacks water. Dehydrated skin can be oily, and benefits from hydration and barrier repair rather than heavy oils.

How much do hydrating boosters cost?

Zero-Bruise Rejuran 2cc is ₩300,000, Hilowave 2cc is ₩450,000 and Elravie Re2O is ₩800,000 per session, VAT excluded.

How long do results last?

Hydration from boosters usually lasts several months, and a course of sessions tends to last longer than one.

Is there downtime?

Usually only small bumps or mild redness for 1–3 days. Most patients return to their day straight away.

Can I have a booster before flying home?

Yes. Many international patients do, but allow a day for bumps to settle if you have photos or events.

Will drinking more water fix dehydrated skin?

It helps overall health, but skin dehydration is mainly a barrier problem. Barrier care and boosters work more directly.
