The short answer

What causes facial redness?

Facial redness is persistent pinkness or flushing of the cheeks, nose or chin, most often caused by dilated blood vessels, rosacea, a damaged skin barrier or inflammation from acne. It is usually managed rather than cured: laser treatments can reduce visible vessels, and barrier repair calms reactive skin over several sessions.

Redness comes from blood showing through the skin. Small surface vessels can widen permanently over time (telangiectasia), especially with sun damage, genetics and repeated flushing. In rosacea, the skin flushes easily with heat, alcohol, spicy food or stress, and redness can become constant. Thin or fair skin shows these vessels more clearly.

A weakened barrier is another common cause. Over-exfoliation, strong actives, harsh cleansing or long-term steroid creams leave skin sensitive, stinging and red. Inflammation from acne also leaves red marks after spots heal. Because the causes differ, treatment does too: vascular laser for vessels and marks, barrier-repair boosters for sensitivity, and trigger control at home.

Signs these treatments can help

  • Constant pinkness on the cheeks or around the nose
  • Fine red vessels you can see up close
  • Red marks that stay after acne spots heal
  • Skin that flushes and stings easily with products or heat

When to see a specialist first

  • Diagnosed or suspected rosacea with eye irritation, bumps or thickening skin, which needs a dermatologist's medical treatment
  • A new rash across the cheeks with joint pain or tiredness, or redness with swelling, itching or hives: see a doctor to rule out allergy or autoimmune disease
  • Scaly, flaky red patches (for example eczema or seborrhoeic dermatitis), which should be diagnosed and treated medically first
Common causes

Why the face looks red

1

Visible blood vessels

Widened surface capillaries create fixed redness and fine red lines.

2

Rosacea and flushing

Triggers like heat, alcohol and stress cause repeated flushing.

3

Damaged skin barrier

Over-exfoliation and harsh products leave skin red and reactive.

4

Post-acne inflammation

Healing spots leave flat red marks that fade slowly.

Your visit

How we treat facial redness at our clinic

  1. Doctor consultation. We look at the pattern of redness, your triggers, products and any medical history.
  2. Medical referral if needed. Signs of active rosacea, eczema or another skin disease are referred to a dermatologist first.
  3. Barrier repair. For sensitive skin we start with calming care and a repair booster such as Rejuran.
  4. Vascular laser. Visible vessels and red marks are treated with laser settings chosen for redness, over several sessions.
  5. Trigger plan. We agree simple daily habits: gentle cleansing, sunscreen and avoiding your flush triggers.

Aftercare

  • Keep the skin cool and avoid hot showers and saunas for a few days
  • Use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser
  • Wear sunscreen every day
  • Pause retinoids and acids until the doctor says to restart

Possible side effects

After vascular laser, mild redness and swelling are common for a day or two; occasional small bruises can appear. Redness tends to return over time if triggers continue, so maintenance sessions are often needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can facial redness be removed permanently?

Visible vessels treated by laser often stay reduced for a long time, but new ones can form and flushing can return. Most patients need occasional maintenance.

How many laser sessions will I need?

Typically 3–5 sessions about 2–4 weeks apart, depending on how widespread the redness is and how your skin responds.

Is it safe if I have rosacea?

Laser is widely used for the redness of rosacea, but active inflammation should be treated medically first. We will tell you if you need a dermatologist before we start.

Is there downtime?

Usually mild redness or swelling for a day or two. Occasional small bruises can last up to a week.

What does it cost?

Laser pricing depends on the area and settings and is quoted after consultation. Rejuran 2cc starts at ₩300,000, excluding VAT, with the same price for foreigners.
