The short answer

What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin, triggering a healing response that builds new collagen and elastin. Most patients need 3–6 sessions about a month apart, with 1–3 days of redness after each.

The micro-channels are too small to scar but signal the skin to repair. Over the following weeks, fibroblasts lay down new collagen, which gradually softens shallow scars, refines pores and smooths fine lines. Because collagen builds slowly, the best results appear a few months after a series.

The channels also allow topical products to reach deeper for a short time. That is why microneedling is often combined with Rejuran, exosome or other skin boosters. The doctor decides needle depth by area: shallow around the eyes, deeper over acne scars.

Who it suits

  • Shallow acne scars and post-acne marks
  • Enlarged pores and rough, uneven texture
  • Fine lines and early loss of firmness
  • People who want texture improvement with shorter downtime than resurfacing lasers

Who should wait or choose another option

  • Active acne, infection, cold sores or eczema in the area: treat these first
  • Isotretinoin in the last 6 months, a bleeding disorder or keloid scarring
  • Moderate sagging, which needs lifting treatments instead

Your visit

Your treatment day

  1. Doctor consultation. We assess scars, pores and skin type and decide depth and add-ons.
  2. Numbing. Numbing cream is applied for about 30 minutes.
  3. Microneedling. The doctor treats each area at a set depth; you feel vibration and prickling.
  4. Booster or calming serum. A booster or soothing serum is applied while channels are open.
  5. Mask and sunscreen. We calm the skin; redness usually settles in 1–3 days.

Aftercare

  • No make-up for 24 hours; gentle skincare for 48 hours
  • Avoid retinoids, acids and scrubs for several days
  • Avoid saunas, swimming and intense exercise for 48 hours
  • Daily broad-spectrum sunscreen

Possible side effects

Redness, warmth, pinpoint bleeding, mild swelling and a rough feel are common for 1–3 days. Less often, breakouts, temporary pigmentation or infection can occur; sterile single-use needles and correct aftercare reduce the risk.

Frequently asked questions

How many microneedling sessions do I need?

Usually 3–6 sessions about 4 weeks apart. Acne scars often need the full series, and results keep improving for a few months.

Does microneedling hurt?

With numbing cream most patients feel vibration and light prickling. Bony areas such as the forehead can feel stronger.

What is the downtime?

Redness like a mild sunburn for 1–3 days. Most patients return to work the next day.

Microneedling or Fraxel for acne scars?

Microneedling suits shallow scars with less downtime; Fraxel reaches deeper scars and sun damage but has a longer recovery. The doctor may combine both.

Can I do microneedling on a short trip?

Yes. Plan it at least a few days before a flight or event and avoid strong sun afterwards.

Is the price the same for foreigners?

Yes. Korean and international patients pay the same price, and an English-speaking coordinator helps with booking. VAT of 10% is added at payment.
