The short answer

What causes enlarged pores?

Enlarged pores are visible openings of hair follicles that look bigger due to excess oil, loss of skin firmness, sun damage and acne scarring. They cannot be removed, but Skin Botox, collagen boosters and resurfacing treatments can make them look noticeably smaller.

Each pore is the opening of a hair follicle and oil gland. When glands produce a lot of oil, pores fill and stretch, especially on the nose and cheeks. With age and sun damage, collagen around each pore weakens, so pores sag open and look elongated, often in a teardrop shape. Old acne can also leave pores wider and the surface uneven.

Because pore size has more than one cause, treatment works on several layers. Skin Botox, injected in tiny, shallow doses, reduces oil and can tighten the look of the surface. Collagen boosters and resurfacing treatments such as Juvelook Skin, Fraxel and microneedling firm the skin around the pores so they look smaller and smoother.

Signs these treatments can help

  • Visible pores on the cheeks, nose or forehead
  • Oily skin with shine through the day
  • Teardrop-shaped pores from lost firmness
  • Pores with shallow acne scarring around them

When to see a specialist first

  • Active inflamed acne: treat it first, see acne treatment
  • Persistent redness and bumps, which may be rosacea and needs a medical diagnosis
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding: Skin Botox and some lasers should wait
Causes

Why pores look larger

1

Excess oil

Busy oil glands fill and stretch pore openings.

2

Lost firmness

Weaker collagen lets pores sag into teardrop shapes.

3

Sun damage

UV breaks down the structure that supports pores.

4

Acne history

Inflammation leaves pores wider and edges uneven.

How we treat enlarged pores at our clinic

  1. Doctor consultation. We assess oiliness, firmness and scarring around the pores.
  2. Oil control. Zero-Bruise Skin Botox reduces oil and refines the surface.
  3. Firming. Juvelook Skin or Rejuran builds collagen around the pores.
  4. Resurfacing. For scarring, Fraxel or microneedling smooths the surface.
  5. Course. Most plans run 3–5 sessions; we follow up on Instagram.

Aftercare

  • Use a gentle cleanser and light, non-comedogenic moisturiser
  • Apply SPF daily
  • Avoid saunas and lying face-down for a few hours after Skin Botox
  • Skip exfoliants for a few days

Possible side effects

Small bumps and mild redness after injections usually settle within 1–3 days. Laser resurfacing can cause a few days of redness and flaking. Pore size improves gradually, and results are not permanent without maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Can enlarged pores be shrunk permanently?

Pores cannot be removed, but they can look noticeably smaller. Results last months, and maintenance keeps them refined.

How much does pore treatment cost?

Zero-Bruise Skin Botox is ₩300,000 with a Korean-made toxin or ₩500,000 with Xeomin, and Mirajet Forte Juvelook Skin 3cc is ₩450,000, VAT excluded.

How long does Skin Botox last for pores?

Usually around 3–4 months, depending on your skin and oil production.

Is there downtime?

Skin Botox and boosters usually cause only small bumps for a day or so. Fraxel can cause several days of redness.

Can I do this during a short trip?

Yes. Skin Botox and Juvelook Skin take less than an hour and have little downtime.

Does pore strip or extraction help?

It empties pores briefly but does not change their size, and frequent squeezing can damage skin.
