Freckle Treatment in Seoul: Doctor-Led Care
Freckles are small, inherited pigment spots that darken in the sun. Our doctors confirm they are freckles, not melasma or other marks, then lighten them with targeted pigment laser and a sun-protection plan to slow their return.

What causes freckles?
Freckles are small, flat, light-brown spots caused by an inherited tendency for pigment cells to produce more melanin in response to sunlight. They are harmless. Pigment lasers can lighten them, usually in one to a few sessions, but new freckles appear with sun exposure unless you protect your skin.
Freckles, or ephelides, are genetic. People with the tendency have pigment cells that respond strongly to UV, so small spots appear on the nose, cheeks and shoulders, often from childhood. They typically darken in summer and fade in winter. Unlike age spots, which accumulate later in life from years of sun damage, freckles come and go with seasonal sun.
Pigment lasers break up the melanin in each freckle into tiny particles that the body clears over the following weeks. Because the tendency to freckle stays, treatment lightens the existing spots but does not prevent new ones. Freckles can sit alongside melasma, which needs much gentler care, so a doctor checks your pigment before choosing settings.

When to see a specialist first
- A spot that is new, growing, irregular or bleeding: see a dermatologist first
- Larger, symmetrical patches on the cheeks, which may be melasma and need a gentler plan

- Laser plan. The doctor chooses a pigment laser and settings for your skin type.
- Treatment. Each freckle is treated quickly; most feel a light snap on the skin.
- Healing. Treated freckles darken and form fine crusts that usually shed within 5–10 days.
- Prevention. Daily sunscreen and, if needed, maintenance sessions keep freckles lighter.
Aftercare
- Do not pick the fine crusts
- Use broad-spectrum SPF 50 and a hat every day
- Moisturise with gentle products
- Avoid strong actives for about a week
Possible side effects
Freckles darken and crust before fading. Temporary redness and, in some skin types, post-inflammatory darkening can occur and usually fade over weeks. New freckles form with sun exposure.

Frequently asked questions
Can freckles be removed permanently?
Existing freckles can be lightened a lot, but the tendency to freckle is genetic, so new ones appear with sun exposure.
How much does freckle removal cost?
It is priced after consultation, based on the area and number of freckles. Send us photos on Instagram for a quote in English.
How many sessions are needed?
Many patients see good lightening in 1–3 sessions; deeper or more numerous freckles may need more.
What is the downtime?
Treated freckles darken and form fine crusts for about 5–10 days. Make-up can usually be used after a day or two.
What is the difference between freckles and melasma?
Freckles are small, scattered and inherited. Melasma forms larger, symmetrical patches and needs gentler treatment.
When is the best time to treat freckles?
Autumn and winter are ideal, when sun exposure is lower and freckles are less stimulated.
