How to Fix Sagging Skin in Seoul: Non-Surgical Options

Sagging skin comes from collagen loss, a looser support layer and shifting fat. Our physicians assess which layer has dropped, then combine ultrasound, radiofrequency or threads so the lift looks natural and you can fly home without downtime.

The short answer

What causes sagging skin?

Sagging skin is caused by falling collagen and elastin, a weaker SMAS support layer, fat pads that shrink or slide, and bone loss with age. Mild to moderate sagging usually responds well to non-surgical lifting such as Ultherapy, Thermage or a thread lift, with little or no downtime.

From the mid-twenties the skin makes less collagen each year, and sun exposure speeds up the breakdown. The dermis becomes thinner and less springy, so it no longer holds its shape against gravity. Underneath, the SMAS, the fibrous layer that facelift surgeons tighten, also loosens and lets the cheeks and jawline drift down.

Fat and bone change too. Some fat pads in the mid-face shrink while others gather lower near the jaw, and the bones of the cheek and jaw slowly lose volume. The result is a flatter mid-face, deeper folds and a softer jaw line. Treating sagging well means deciding which of these layers is the main problem for you.

Signs these treatments can help

  • Softer jawline or early jowls that bother you in photos
  • Cheeks that look lower or flatter than a few years ago
  • Loose skin under the chin or on the front of the neck
  • You want a natural lift without surgery or long recovery

When to see a specialist first

  • Very heavy, hanging skin, where a surgical facelift gives a more reliable result
  • Sudden facial drooping on one side: seek urgent medical care, as it can signal a nerve problem or stroke
  • Large skin excess after major weight loss: see skin laxity after weight loss
Main causes

Four reasons skin starts to sag

1

Collagen and elastin loss

The dermis thins with age and sun, so skin stretches and recoils less.

2

Looser SMAS layer

The deep support layer weakens and lets cheeks and jowls drop.

3

Fat pad changes

Mid-face fat shrinks while lower-face fat gathers near the jaw.

4

Bone remodelling

Cheek and jaw bones lose volume, leaving skin with less to drape over.

How we treat sagging skin at our clinic

  1. Face assessment. The doctor checks skin thickness, laxity, fat and bone support in each area.
  2. Choose the layer. Ultrasound for the deep SMAS, radiofrequency for the skin, threads for an immediate reposition.
  3. Numbing. Numbing cream for most treatments, or sleep sedation on eligible packages.
  4. Treatment. Your physician treats each zone, with shot counts shown on the device afterwards.
  5. Review. We check results with photos on Instagram and plan maintenance, usually yearly.

What to expect

  • Mild redness or tenderness for hours to a few days
  • Some tightening early, the main lift over 2–3 months
  • Daily sunscreen protects new collagen
  • Maintenance about every 12 months keeps the result

Possible side effects

Ultrasound and radiofrequency can cause temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or small bruises, and rarely short-lived numbness. Threads can cause bruising, dimpling or tightness for a week or two. Non-surgical lifting improves mild to moderate sagging but does not remove excess skin like surgery.

Frequently asked questions

Can sagging skin be fixed without surgery?

Mild to moderate sagging usually improves well with ultrasound, radiofrequency or thread lifting. Very loose, hanging skin is better treated surgically, and the doctor will tell you honestly if that is the case.

Which works best for sagging, Ultherapy or Thermage?

Ultherapy works on the deeper support layer and suits jawline and brow lifting. Thermage tightens the skin itself. Many patients combine both; see the Ultherapy + Thermage package.

How much does it cost to treat sagging skin?

Ultherapy Prime starts from ₩390,000 per 100 shots and Alltite from ₩600,000, excluding VAT. Your total depends on the areas and shot count the doctor recommends.

How long do the results last?

Device lifting typically lasts around a year, and dissolving threads often 12–18 months. Results vary with age, skin and lifestyle.

Can I be treated on a short trip to Seoul?

Yes. Ultrasound and radiofrequency lifting have no downtime, so most patients treat and travel the same day. Allow a few extra days after threads in case of bruising.

Does it hurt?

You feel heat and pressure during treatment. We use numbing cream, and sleep sedation is available on eligible packages.
